Preparing Your Belongings...

Clothing, Bedding and Curtains
Cloth items should be clean and free from soil and starch to avoid pest attacks.

Clothing can be stored on hangers in wardrobe boxes. Do not use plastic bags around cloth items.

TIP:   Our stores sell packing material such as wardrobe and dishes boxes, bubble wrap, and drop cloths.

Carpets
Carpets should be rolled right-side out and never folded to preserve the pile.

Electronics
Where possible use the original boxes to store electronics. Label all cords.

Breakables
Wrap breakables individually in either bubble wrap or cloth.

Nest cups and bowls together and stack plates on edge. Plates can also be packed in dish boxes for added protection.

Glasses should be packed higher in the box.

Label these boxes clearly as "Breakable" and do not stack heavy items on them.

Wrap mirrors and pictures in packing paper. Never store these items flat.

Bikes
Wipe a few drops of machine oil to avoid rusting.

Tools, including Metal and Electric Items
Items should be cleaned and completely dry before storage.

Metal items should be wiped with a few drops of machine oil to prevent rusting.

Long handled tools (e.g. shovels) can be bundled together for neater storage.

Hand tools and smaller inventory items can be packed in hearty plastic storage containers.

Disconnect batteries to prevent draining while in storage.

Cords should be properly wound and secured.
